Apple stops selling iPhone 4S in China to protect its staff

Friday, January 13th, 2012

Apple says it’s suspending iPhone 4S sales in mainland China following the violence we reported earlier, in which angry customers threw eggs at the company’s flagship store in Beijing. The crowd had queued in freezing temperatures to purchase the newly-arrived 4S, but were subsequently told the store would not be opening for business — hence their angry response. It seems that many in the mob weren’t normal consumers, but were workers put in place by resellers who wanted to buy up devices and sell them on at a profit. There was similar disorder when the iPad 2 went on sale in China, and now an Apple spokesperson has said the risk to its staff is too great, forcing it to halt 4S sales “for the time being.”

IPhone 5 display defect could lead to short supply at launch

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

A defect found in some iPhone 5 display panels may result in short supply next month, suggesting that Apple’s iPhone launch may once again be marred by angry customers unable to get their hands on Apple’s latest and greatest. DigiTimes reported on Friday that Apple display supplier Wintek has identified a defect called a “delayed bubble” in some display panels may affect its ability to meet Apple’s supply demands. Read on for more.

The defect described involves a bubble that appears between the panel and the lamination layer only after the displays are sent out for assembly.¬†Wintek would not confirm or deny the report when contacted by DigiTimes for comment, though it did state that all of its products are being delivered on schedule. According to the report, Apple’s fourth-quarter shipment goal for the iPhone 5 is in the 25-26 million unit range. Wintek is estimated to be supplying between 20% and 25% of the display panels used in Apple’s iPhone 5.

Luke Wilson gives the AT&T crew a little morale booster

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Life has got to be rough right now for AT&T employees. Thankfully, Luke Wilson has stepped up to the plate and recorded an internal memo for the folks at AT&T who might be struggling to get through the daily grind. After all, they have to deal with us as angry customers and it’s not their fault that the network is sub-par in some areas. Just like most of the characters he plays in movies, his tone in the message has that “you-can-trust-this-guy” ring to it. Hopefully AT&T employees can feel a little more confident now and leave work at the end of every day with a little spring in their step. Hit the read link to hear an audio file of the memo!
