Leaked slides suggest HTC One S to arrive at T-Mobile on April 25th

Go ahead and grab that eraser, because we have a new launch date for the HTC One S at T-Mobile. That’s right, a leaked training slide has now outed Wednesday, April 25th as the day to watch for the arrival of this unibody beauty. Just make sure to mark your calendar with pencil — as with all rumored product announcements, this date might shift again. On the plus side, you now know as much as T-Mobile employees, and that’s a nice feeling.

HTC sees sharp decline in Q1 revenue, profit

Friday, April 6th, 2012

HTC on Friday reported unaudited earnings for the first quarter, revealing an extremely rocky start to the new year. The company warned that its first quarter results would see decline as the Taiwan-based vendor prepared to launch its new flagship smartphones, and preliminary numbers are in line with HTC’s earlier forecast. Revenue of NT$67.8 billion in the first quarter is down 35% from the same period last year, and HTC posted an after-tax profit of just NT$4.7 billion, down 70% year-on-year. HTC hopes business will pick up significantly as its new flagship smartphones, the One X and One S, begin to launch in various regions abroad. In the United States, the One X will launch on AT&T this month and before the end of June on Sprint as the HTC EVO 4G LTE. The HTC One S will be released in April on T-Mobile.

Samsung delays Galaxy Tab 2 launch until end of April

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Samsung on Tuesday confirmed that its 7-inch and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 tablets have been delayed and will now start shipping to the U.K at the end of the month, ComputerWorld reports. When the Android 4.0 slates were announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress, the company said both devices would arrive in U.K. stores in March ahead of a global rollout. According to a Samsung spokesman, complications with Ice Cream Sandwich caused the delay is due to Ice Cream Sandwich, which both Samsung and Google need more time to work on. This isn’t the first time Samsung has run into problems with Android 4.0. Last month the manufacturer delayed its original upgrade plan for the Galaxy Note from the first three months of 2012 to some time in the second quarter. Samsung is currently rolling out an update to its Galaxy S II smartphone throughout Europe.

Panasonic Eluga gets official launch date in Japan and Europe

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012
Image
No, it’s not the noise of an air-raid siren. It’s Panasonic’s bold return to the smartphone game. Eluga admittedly isn’t the most attractive of appellations, but in the flesh it’s drop dead gorgeous. It’ll arrive as the P-04D in Japan on NTT DoCoMo on the 29th of this month, while Panasonic’s European site now teases that it’ll arrive in that continent in April. Oh, and if anyone gives you stick about the name, just remind ‘em that its meatier older brother will be along shortly.

Aakash 2 to land in April, set budget tablet lovers back a measly $40

Friday, March 16th, 2012

The device that started as a $10 laptop, graduated to a $35 tablet and settled on a $60 reality is about to get its first successor: the Aakash 2. Like its predecessor, the new Aakash is twist on a DataWind Ubislate, namely the Ubislate 7+. According to TechSnapr, $40 (or 2,000 Rupees) buys a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 3200 mAh battery and a 700MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor — nearly doubling the oomph of the original. Datawind, however, pegs the Ubislate 7+ at familiar 2,999 Rupees (about $60), noting that the unbranded hardware runs Android 2.3 and features WiFi and GPRS connectivity. Students in India should be able to pick up the budget-friendly slab sometime in April.

[Thanks, Pravesh]
