Amazon Is Overrun With a Plague of Bestseller Knockoffs [Amazon]

Monday, April 16th, 2012

If you search for popular books on Amazon, it turns out you'll turn up intentionally misleading knockoffs. Publishers obviously aren't happy about about it, but some of these titles are hilarious. I Am The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, anybody? Seriously, who falls for that? Apparently, a lot of people. More »

HTC launches trio of Dragons in China, Ice Cream Sandwich on all
HTC's been far from quiet since unveiling its One series to the masses, and today the company's continuing the trend by launching three new devices in China. This trio makes up HTC's Dragon lineup, which our partners at Engadget China first met at MWC. Leading the way is the 4-inch HTC VT T328t for China Mobile, featuring Sense 4, an S-LCD, WVGA screen, a 1GHz CPU alongside 512MB of RAM, the famed Beats Audio and of course, it's running a flavor of Android ICS. As for the VC T328d (Telecom) and V T328w (Unicom), they're both rocking similar specs as the VT model, with the exception of dual-SIM card slots on each. All three Dragons are expected to be available by month's end, but save for the T328w costing 1999 yuan (around $320), pricing remains a mystery.

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

This is awesome. The real, authentic, genuine, official Sony Pictures DVD for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looks like a burned DVD copy complete with the movie's title scribbled in black sharpie. It's supposed to fit the movie's theme and Rooney Mara's character. More »

Spyro peripheral goes on FCC adventure

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Spyro has seen a lot of action in his day, but few, if any, of his adventures have been quite so trying as his recent trip to the FCC. The commission took a close look at the Portal of Power peripheral for the upcoming Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure title. The circular device lets users store game information across platforms using plastic figures, so progress made on, say, the 3DS version of the game will transfer over when they boot up the PS3 version. The plucky dragon and his pie-like Portal of Power are due to arrive in October.

The Best Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

Monday, August 1st, 2011

I loved the PowerPuff Girls as a kid, man. Yeah I'll admit it. They were awesome. Anytime they'd fly off and cause reckless amounts of property damage, I'd go nuts. Remember the one with the Rowdy Rough Boys? Crazy! I mean, nothing wrong with Dragon Ball Z and even Naruto these days, but each hyperviolent-yet-somehow-adorable episode was a treat. And Buttercup was the shit. Still is. Which is why you need to check out the new Complete Series 10th Anniversary Collection. It's got it all, and for only 25 bucks. Townsville will thank you. -KO More »

Sony adds cloud storage for game saves to PSN Plus subscriptions

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Alright, it's official, Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription just became a thing worth owning with the new addition of online storage for game saves. It's coming with v3.60 of the PS3 firmware, which we're promised to receive tomorrow, March 10th. You'll be allowed to stash up to 150MB of PlayStation 3 game progress data in Sony's make.believe cloud, which is not exactly a staggering amount, but then it's not like those save files take up that much space. The major attraction that we see here is being able to just plug your account details into any PS3 around the globe and continue your questing in Dragon Age II as if you're still at home. See Sony's press release and instructions on how to use the new cloud saving option after the break.

Swedes to start text message-based postage system, girl with dragon tattoo reportedly pleased

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

The Swedish Postal Service has announced that it will soon replace traditional postage stamps with a text message-based system. The system will work pretty simply -- customers will send a text message to a particular number, and a special code will be texted back to them which they can then write on the letter. A spokesperson for Posten AB, the Swedish Postal Service, says the system will work for packages weighing up to two kilograms, and that it will be just as secure as traditional postage. That's all well and good, but how will they adorn their letters with famous Swedish crime writers?

Nuance opens Dragon Mobile SDK to app developers, we see end to embarrassing dictation

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

There are some messages that are just too embarrassing to dictate to a human being. Lucky for us and the retired circus contortionist we hired to type up our missives, Nuance is expanding the reach of its transcription software by making its Dragon Mobile SDK available to developers for use in iOS and Android applications. The SDK, which is free to members of the Nuance Mobile Developer Program, sports speech-to-text capabilities in eight languages and text-to-speech in 35. There are already apps out there that can do the job, including Nuance's own Dragon Dictation, but we welcome new advances in automated transcription. You know, it's not exactly a walk in the park dictating an entire Clay Aiken Fan Club newsletter to a guy named Sid the Human Pretzel.
