Dude walks across america, shoots stop motion movie with Canon 5D Mark II

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Well, he didn’t actually walk all the way across America, but in his time lapse movie he does. Check out this great stop motion movie created by Peter Cole. There’s over 2,700 individual shots all taken on a Canon 5D Mark II and a 24-70 f/2.8 lens then edited down into a time lapse creation. Apparently there’s a little corporate influence behind the video, because Peter and his company pitched the concept to Levis Jeans, and they sponsored the production. Take a look at the video after the jump along with a behind the scenes one if you’re interested!

Modder transmits Wii games to iPod touch, which isn’t really as fun as it sounds (video)

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010
Three years ago, a certain obiwan22222 wowed us when he played Wii on his PSP (with a little help from Sony's LocationFree technology). For his next trick, our man has done the same thing on an iPod touch. But wait, you ask -- is there a LocationFree client for iPhone / iPod touch? We don't think so, so we've pinged him for an explanation. He's being extremely tight-lipped about it all, saying only that 1) this is not fake, 2) he got rid of the five second lag, and 3) all will be revealed "soon enough" (that is, once we've been tortured enough). If anything, we can certainly respect a man with a flair for showmanship! In the meantime, check out the video after the break. We'll let you know as soon as we hear back from the dude.

Nexus One’s unitouch browser falls victim to Cyanogen

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Hey, Andy, thanks for "considering" adding multitouch to the Nexus One -- meanwhile, though, there are folks in the trenches actually making it happen, so we might not need your help anymore. The usual suspects over at xda-developers (the legendary Cyanogen, specifically) have mixed, baked, and cooled a delicious new Browser APK for Google's so-called superphone that undoes the company's poorly-made decision to leave out the hot-button feature on everyone's mind. The dude says that you might lose your settings and bookmarks in the process, but we'd say that's a small price to pay -- especially considering that you'd normally have to flash the entire ROM anyhow. Seriously though, Andy, just check it out for a few days and see what you think, alright?

[Thanks, Owaeis]

Surely, This Remote Control Bowling Ball Is the Devil’s Contraption [Bowling]

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

You thought Walter and the Dude got mad when that guy stepped over the line in The Big Lebowski? Just wait until they run into this bewitched remote control bowling ball. The Dude most certainly does not abide, man.

Sadly, there's more tech involved here than witchcraft, which doesn't exist. Instead, this cheater's bowling ball, created by the nefarious folks at 900 Global, uses an internal "a weight screwed onto a threaded shaft inside the ball," and perhaps a incarcerated hamster to steer itself down the lane and into the intended target.

I joke about cheating, but the goal here is actually to help young children and those with physical limitations bowl better. Perfection ain't cheap though: The 900 Global ball will run you $1,500. And your immortal soul! [Popular Mechanics via Gawker TV]

Super cheap Archos 1 Vision DMP set for release this month

Friday, November 6th, 2009
Archos has been on a real PMP tear as of late, releasing the Archos 2 Vision, 3 Vision, and the Clipper all in one pop back in August. The company's now launched yet another Vision model, the entry-level 1 Vision. This tiny little 4GB dude has a 1.5-inch LCD and supposedly gets about 20 hours of battery life per charge. No video support in this puppy, but the €30 (somewhere in the realm of $45) pricetag should temper some of your crushing disappointment over its lack of features. The Archos 1 Vision should be available in Europe by the end of November.
