Sprint offering free 3G / 4G Plug-in-connect, clears space for faster dongles
Over the weekend, Sprint announced it’s handing out one of its 3G / 4G dongles free of charge to its customers — with a catch, though. The gratis U602 Plug-in-connect can be yours now if you’re rockin’ an American Express Prepaid Reward Card, getting a new line or willing to sign a fresh two-year deal. And, if those options aren’t tempting enough, you’ll unfortunately have to part ways with a mere 50 bucks in order to take one home. However, don’t expect this Now Network USB connector to let you surf on those promised LTE waves, since beloved WiMax speeds (with 3G as a fallback option) are all you can get. Sound good? The Plug-in-connect is up for grabs now at your local store or via the source link below.

Having trouble finding an iPhone 4S? Head to RadioShack, retailer says

Friday, October 14th, 2011

As we reach the end of the workday, hoards of iPhone hopefuls are likely getting ready to pack it in and head to their local retailer in an effort to score a shiny new iPhone 4S. As popular as the device has been around the country however, stock-outs are a definite possibility. After all, Sprint and AT&T have both announced record sales and the day isn’t even over. According to an email from a RadioShack spokesperson, The Shack might just be your best bet. “iPhone 4s enthusiasts who are still looking to get their device late this afternoon or over the weekend will find them at their nearby RadioShack,” the company said in the emailed statement. “RadioShack has the iPhone 4S available in 3,000 stores nationwide, and available through its ‘Direct2U’ program in all stores nationwide — customers can buy iPhone 4S at any RadioShack location and have it shipped directly to their homes. Availability of specific configurations (carrier, white vs. black, 16GB vs. 32GB) may vary somewhat across locations. It’s recommended customers call their local store for information.”

Augen’s $150 Android tablet hits Kmart circular, coming to stores later this week

Monday, July 26th, 2010

We can’t say we’ve heard of Augen before, but the company certainly sparked our interest (and that of Kmart circular readers) this weekend with its $149.99 7-inch Android tablet. Oh yes, you heard right shoppers — the small Florida-based shop is bringing an Android 2.1 tablet with WiFi, 2GB of storage and 256MB of RAM to a store near you for just 150 buckaroos. And according to an Augen spokesperson, it will have access to the Android “Market App Store.” That sounds pretty awesome for the pricetag, but we — along with a number of readers we’ve heard from — haven’t been able to locate the 7-inch tablet at any Kmart retail location just yet. (Yes, we even spent a lovely ten minutes on hold with our local store while they checked the inventory.) We’re told by Augen that the device should be hitting shelves later this week, though the company was unsure it would ever land on Kmart’s online store. In addition to the 7-inch tablet, Augen has also released its $89 TheBook e-reader with a similar 7-inch LCD. It doesn’t run Android, but you can check out an in-depth look at its Linux OS in The eReader’s video review after the break. We’ll be keeping an ear to the ground on the availability of the tablet and will be trying to get one in our hands to confirm the preloaded Market, but let us know in the comments if you’ve had any luck yourselves.

[Thanks, Matthew]

Google Shopping adds local inventory search to your mobile

in-stock-nearby

Have an Android, iPhone, or webOS smartphone? Find yourself shopping at Best Buy, Sears, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and West Elm todos los dias? Well, Google has got a new feature for you. Google is officially launching an updated version Google Shopping, for selected mobile devices, that has the ability to search the inventory of local participating retailers. As Google explains:

Just go to Google.com in your mobile browser, tap on the “more” link, and then select “Shopping.” Or look for the “Shopping results” section in Universal Search results when you search on Google.com… look for the blue dots in the search results to see if it’s available in a local store. If you see a blue dot, you can tap on the adjacent “In stock nearby” link, and you’ll be taken to the seller’s page where you’ll see whether the item is “In Stock” or has “Limited Availability” near you.

Personally, we are hoping that all of these side apps get consolidated in the future… but that’s just us. We’ve got the official press release all queued up for you.

Best Buy stocking Nokia’s Booklet 3G on November 15th

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

We knew good and well that Nokia’s Booklet 3G was coming to Best Buy sometime “during the holidays,” and now we’ve got something a bit more precise to share. Starting now, Reward Zone members can waltz into their local store and place a pre-order, while public availability is pegged for November 15th (though we already know that a select few have ‘em in stock). As we’d heard, the 2.76-pound, Atom-powered netbook will be sold for $299.99 with a 2-year AT&T data contract or $599.99 straight-up. Oh, and if you’re looking to get your order in early, we’d recommend printing out that image above just so you don’t baffle anyone with your otherworldly request.
