Kuo cites “discussions with upstream component makers,” and states that the new hardware will be manufactured by Quanta Computer. Kuo also wrote, “The new iPod touch will feature a 3-megapixel camera, capable of both photo and video recording, and will adopt Apple’s latest A4 processor.” The prognostications are not that shocking or outlandish, as both the Macbook Air and iPod Touch are due for a product refresh. Apple has confirmed that the white iPhone is delayed and will not be available until the second half of July. An unspecified challenge in the manufacturing of the handset is at the root of this unfortunate hold up. Whatever the cause, it thankfully does not affect the availability of the black iPhone 4 which is expected to launch June 24th. All you folks camping out in front of Walmart hoping to score a white iPhone should either change your color preference pronto or pack up your gear and go home.

Now that Froyo has gone official, HTC has hurried to reassure its customers that most of its 2010 phone catalog will indeed be riding Android 2.2 before the year is through. Prodded on the subject by Pocket-lint, the company has replied that it's starting out with the Desire and Incredible and working through other "hotly anticipated products," which should sound a reassuring note for prospective Evo 4G owners. A full list will be provided as we get closer to release, but don't wait with bated breath just yet, current indications are that the software upgrade will be coming in the second half of the year. By which time we'll all probably have a taste for Gingerbread.

Have a new Android smartphone from HTC? Obsessing over whether or not it will get an official FroYo plus Sense UI update? Well fear not, because HTC has issued a statement to sooth your panic-stricken soul. Unfortunately, it’s so vague that it actually raises more questions than it answers. According to HTC:

[...] if your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can’t be more specific yet.

Most likely? Uh oh. We’re hoping that the shadows of doubt placed upon the Desire, Droid Incredible, EVO 4G and myTouch 3G Slide can be attributed to poor choice of words, but what about the Legend? Better yet, what about the Sprint Hero (October 2009) or the Verizon Droid Eris (November 2009)? If you thought people put up a stink about how long it took the Sprint Hero to get bumped up to Android 2.1, prepare yourself. There’s no telling what the Android Army is capable of.

How this flew under the radar for nearly a week is beyond us, but the launch of Flash 10.1 for Android, BlackBerry and webOS has been pushed back to the second-half of this year. This news comes straight from the mouth of Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen who casually slipped in news of the delayed release while discussing the formal launch of Creative Suite 5 with FOX Business. It’s definitely the sort of news that can run a lot of people’s lazy Sunday afternoons, but there is a consolation prize: Narayen said we’re going to see flash on tablet devices, presumably running Android and Chrome. This week Adobe released version 5 of its Creative Suite software compilation. CEO Shantanu Narayen has naturally hit the interview trail to promote his company's wares, but the biggest news from him is actually a delay of sorts. We'd previously heard that Android, WebOS and BlackBerry versions of Flash 10.1 would be available in the first half of 2010, but Adobe's chief now places delivery to those platforms in the second half of the year. At least consolation may be found in his teasing of new Flash-enabled tablets -- most likely to be running Android or Chrome OS -- which we're told to expect to see within the same time frame. As to the question of Apple's holdout from Flash nirvana, Narayen describes it as a business rather than technology decision, which "hurts consumers" and will ultimately be judged by people voting "for the experience that they want through their wallet." So, was all that hubbub for nothing? British retailer mobiles.co.uk -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of giant Carphone Warehouse, for what it's worth -- is claiming a "man on the inside" as saying that the X10 actually can do multitouch after all, despite word from a Sony Ericsson product manager to the contrary. In fact, not only can it do multitouch, but it will do multitouch through a software update in the second half of the year, the source goes on to say. This all ties in nicely with the dude's claim that the X10 will see an official update to Android 2.1 in September, a window that dovetails rather nicely with Sony Ericsson's official line of 2H 2010. Of course, by the time September rolls around, we can only assume that Froyo will be alive and well, so the ultimate question of relevancy for Sony Ericsson's very first Android venture remains to be answered.

The last time we heard anything about the launch schedule for Google's Chrome OS it was summer of last year. At that time we were told a rather vague "second half of 2010" and, now that we're entering the second quarter of the year, forgive us if we were starting to get a bit doubtful about that timeline. But, Google's Eric Schmidt is here to assuage our fears, speaking at the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and indicating the little OS is still on track for that same, rather vague release window. That we're still not getting a more specific date makes us think we're probably looking at a release toward the end of the second half of this year, but just the same it seems like you shouldn't wipe that Chrome-powered netbook off your wishlist for this upcoming holiday season just yet.

Today, at CeBIT, Nokia unveiled the first handset in its newly-named line of phones, the C-Series: the Nokia C5. The C5 pairs the classic Nokia candy bar form-factor with S60 3rd edition and a very modest price point — €135 ($182) unsubsidized. The phone will feature a 2.2″ display, 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm A/V connector, FM radio, 12 hours of talk time, GPS, Ovi Maps, Nokia Messaging, and microSD card slot (with support for up to a 16GB card). The C5 will be available in the second half of 2010 in Europe, Eurasia, and China. Not for everyone, but hey, for $182 it’s way better than a feature phone, in our modest opinion.

After years of demos, it's looking like 2010 could finally be the year that TransferJet goes mainstream. Just a month after the release of the TransferJet-ready Sony VAIO F and CyberShots, Toshiba's saying that it's prepping products with the near field communication technology to hit in the second half of the year. It appears Tosh demoed the same TransferJet-compatible Qosmio that we saw at CEATEC last year, but the guys at Reg Hardware are assuming the company's lappies will be the first products to support the short-range, high-speed sharing feature. We'd still like to see some other TransferJet gadgets pop up to make this whole ecosystem worthwhile, but this is one step closer. You better not be pulling our leg, Toshiba!

DigiTimes is reporting that mobile giant Nokia plans to forgo Symbian V2 and release Symbian V3, complete with multitouch functions, in the second half of 2010. Perhaps even more exciting than that, was what Digi’s sources had to say about Symbian 4: “Symbian version 4 is believed to be based on the Qt cross-platform application development framework developed by Trolltech. The Qt will allow software developers to develop application software supporting Symbian and Maemo platforms simultaneously.” Nokia acquired Trolltech back in June, 2008. While no details of Maemo 6 were revealed, the article does state that we’ll get our first look at Maemo 6 handsets by the second half of 2010. The source also went on to comment, vaguely, on Nokia’s 2011 product road map: “By 2011, smartphones based on the Symbian S60-platform will account for 55% of Nokia’s total handset shipments, followed by Symbian S40 feature phones at 35% and Maemo-based devices at 10%.” Not sure about you, but we’re pretty excited.

It seems like we've been talking about Samsung and its 30nm promise for an eternity, but ever so slowly real products are starting to head out into real consumers' hands. After recently announcing its forthcoming NAND memory cards, the company is back with word of 2Gb DDR3 DRAM modules that consume 30 percent less power than their 50nm counterparts, yet are also more cost-effective to manufacture. Operating at either 1.5 or 1.35 volts, the 30nm parts are set for mass production in the second half of 2010, so they won't be here quite as soon as we'd like, but at least we'll know what to put down in our next Holiday Gift Guide. Just imagine your laptop purring along with a paired set of ultra-efficient RAM sticks and one of those newfangled 25nm-based SSDs from Intel -- you could probably power it on the sheer strength of your geek lust alone.

You'll know this device as the 4.8-inch revolutionary intent on making us fall madly in love with MIDs all over again (or should that be for the first time?). Good thing then that we now know it as the device that bears a thousand Engadget fingerprints. The Moorestown-powered GW990 from LG has finally become official and we have to say it is exactly the huge slab you might imagine it to be. In terms of specs, it comes with 16GB of built in flash memory and 512MB RAM, and 720p output is possible if the 1020 x 480 screen resolution isn't enough for you. Chunky, sturdy and curved in all the right places, it's an appealing device even if it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Powered by Moblin and primarily marketed as a 3G device, we were told by LG that -- behind the 1,850mAh battery and alongside the MicroSD expansion slot -- your SIM can make a home, and some such AT&T appendages have already been spotted inside this... smartphone? The UI at present is just a standard S-class layered on top of Moblin, giving us no cause for excitement, but we were reassured that LG will be offering many other OS options when the device shows up in the second half of this year. For an upstart mobile chipstart, Tegra seemed off to a decent start in 2009, but with a minimum of actual hardware actually on shelves for the holidays, we're supposed to look to 2010 now for Tegra's big break -- according to NVIDIA, anyway. NVIDIA plans to unveil its next-gen Tegra 2 chipset at CES in January, which is rumored to around twice as powerful as the original, and we're supposed to be seeing a bunch of "interesting form factors" along side (like that Tegra tablet pictured above, for instance). We're told to expect tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks and MIDs running Tegra in the first half of next year, but the real traction is supposed to take place with the first smartphone entries in the second half of 2010. It sounds like a long time to wait.

We can file this one under rumor of a rumor — you’ve been warned — so please, proceed with caution. DigiTimes is reporting that Apple’s yet to be announced tablet device will be delayed until the second half of 2010 due to a last minute design change, specifically, the use of a 9.7″ OLED LG display. The report goes onto say that the delay is a strategic move by Apple due to the current cost of the OLED panels, which currently wholesale for around $500 a pop. The price of LG’s panels are expected to drop significantly in late 2010 as they revamp their production line with newer equipment. The report is oozing with speculation on release dates, price, manufacturer, and potential future models, so we’ll let you check out the dirt for yourself.
